The Solar System Song

A few parents have requested some of our famous lyrics! I will add a new song every now and then with some fun class photos!

The Solar System Song
Written By: Rebecca Kleen
Sung to the Tune of: Oh My Darlin'

Solar System, Solar System, Solar System on my mind
Oh It's just the Solar System and it orbits 'round the sun.

Mercury, then Venus third comes Earth and then Mars
Jupiter is the biggest, Saturn had all the rings.
Next comes Uranus with it's many moons then Neptune with it's wind
Last is Pluto, it's the smallest and the farthest from the sun.

Working with the Large Number Cards. This activity teaches children number place and value, ones, tens, hundreds, thousands. This activity also encourages children to count by 10's, 100's and 1000's

These girls are working with the Short Bead Stair and the Teen Bead Stair. These activities are teaching children to count from 1-10 recognizing the written number and the correct unit value. The Teen Bead Stair is showing us that a 10 bead unit is used for the 10's place and the colored unit pair matches with the 10 to make a larger number. Ex: One Ten bar plus 2 unit's is Twelve.

A Working Classroom. Each child works on a "work and Mat" choosing his or her own activities.

Kids in The Kitchen!

What a great first cooking experience! Ethan was able to crack the egg in one good smash, and no one sneezed in the bowl! The kids loved taking a turn and helping out. The favorite part was eating the cookies outside. I took a few pictures for you to enjoy!

Enrolling for Fall 2009

GKL Montessori is a home based pre-school program for children 3 years to 5 years old. GKL Montessori is taught by a Certified Montessori Instructor and classes are limited to 8 students.

Our program follows the Montessori Method developed by Maria Montessori in the 1900's.

“Scientific observation has established that education is not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words but by experiences upon the environment. The task of the teacher becomes that of preparing a series of motives of cultural activity, spread over a specially prepared environment, and then refraining from obtrusive interference. Human teachers can only help the great work that is being done, as servants help the master. Doing so, they will be witnesses to the unfolding of the human soul and to the rising of a New Man who will not be a victim of events, but will have the clarity of vision to direct and shape the future of human society”.
- Maria Montessori

Our Montessori Environment is set up at the child's level and he/she will have the choice of which lessons they would like to participate in each day. Practical Life lessons include pouring, mixing, cleaning and taking care of ones self. Each child serves his or her own snack and is responsible for cleaning up.

The Purpose of the Sensory materials in the classroom is to refine and develop the child's senses. The Child develops the senses of sight, sound, taste, touch, etc. through manipulation, and experience with his/her surroundings.

We will also focus on Literature, mathematics, geography and cultural studies. GKL Montessori will have a monthly theme and students will participate in craft projects to refine fine motor skills, however the main focus of this school is hands on lessons with the materials in the classroom.

We are now enrolling for the following classes beginning August 3rd, 2009.

AM Program:Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9:00am - 11:30am$130.00/Month

PM Program:Monday and Wednesday 12:30- 3:00pm$99.00/Month

There is a $35.00 registration fee to hold your spot for the fall, this covers all materials that your child will need for the year. One snack is provided during class. For a registration form please email: rebeccakleen@yahoo.com
